Students Ability in Solving Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) Mathematics Problem Based on Learning Achievement a) Postgraduate Program, Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta Abstract Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) mathematics problem is non-routine mathematics problem that contains elements of analysis, evaluation, and creation. This research uses problem-solving based on Krulik & Rudnick to analyze students ability in solving HOTS mathematics problem with steps such as 1) Read, 2) Explore and Plan, 3) Select a strategy, 4) Find an answer, 5) Reflect and extend. The aims of this research is to describe students ability in solving HOTS mathematics problem with high, medium and low learning achievement . This research used the qualitative descriptive method, with research subjects consisting of 6 students of class VIII A SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta which selected using purposive sampling. Based on the findings, subjects with high learning achievement have the ability to solve a HOTS problem well, able to perform the problem-solving process correctly and with the correct answer. Subjects with medium learning achievement have the ability to solve HOTS problems with incorrect steps but can find the correct answer. Subjects with low learning achievement are only able to understand what is known in the problem, so unable to continue the next step and cant find the correct answer.
